Alexander Renales has described art as the one space where he has consistently been able to express himself freely. From a young age, he experienced limited emotional support within his family, and creative work became his primary outlet for expression.
In 2022, his family faced significant financial hardship, including debt and eviction. As a result, Renales left school early and entered the workforce to help support them. He worked for two years before making the decision to leave stable employment in order to pursue art full time.
He now lives independently and is fully dedicated to his practice.
His work reflects his personal trajectory, moving from experiences of rejection and instability toward self-acceptance. Through the use of color and texture, he translates personal history into visual form.
Renales’ paintings center on transformation: turning struggle into structure, and lived experience into creative expression.
