Dismas Kamanzi George Makanshu, professionally known as Kamanzi Artlife, is a Tanzanian visual artist from the Kagera region, born on April 11, 1997. His practice began in early childhood and was strongly influenced by his mother, a respected local artist whose example shaped his interest in art-making.
Following his parents’ separation, he continued developing his skills independently throughout his education, from early schooling through university. Over time, art evolved from personal interest into a professional direction, supported by sustained practice, experimentation, and technical refinement.
Working in acrylic and oil, Kamanzi focuses on portraiture and wildlife imagery that engage African heritage, cultural memory, and lived identity. His paintings emphasize narrative clarity, compositional control, and a strong connection to place, with each work positioned as a contemporary reflection on African beauty and tradition.
His work has reached collectors within and beyond Tanzania, with exhibitions and sales across multiple countries. He was also nominated for Visual Artist of the Year 2025 at the Afri Glo Choice Awards, marking growing recognition within his early-career trajectory.Today, Kamanzi Artlife continues to build an independent practice defined by consistency, cultural focus, and long-term artistic development.
