Meanwhile, Africa contributes a meager 0.3% of global art exports. South America hovers around 3.6%. East Asia and Africa combined account for less than 7% of online art sales.
Talent is distributed evenly across the globe, but capital and visibility are aggressively centralized in just three hubs. Millions of exceptional creators are locked out of the global economy simply because of their zip code.
Borderless Canvas exists to break that monopoly.
The problem is a total lack of structural support. Thousands of creators across East Asia and Africa are producing museum-quality work under circumstances that would deter many artists in the West. However, these regions lack the galleries, curators, legal frameworks, and shipping logistics required to reach international buyers. An artist working in isolation in a rural province cannot easily ship a large canvas to London or secure payment from New York.
Most traditional institutions ignore these challenges, preferring the safety of local art school graduates who already understand how things work.
